Designed by Sarajoy is an illustration business founded by our friend, graphic designer, mother, wife and cancer fighter Sarajoy Ly.
Born with a natural creative flare, Sarajoy has always had a passion for design and studied a Bachelor of Design at UNSW’s College of Fine Arts. After completing her degree, Sarajoy spent years working as a buyer, product developer and designer at leading fashion brands and houses including Milk and Honey, Volcom AU, General Pants and Glassons.
It wasn’t long until Sarajoy’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and she decided to start her own design business Papette in 2012, where she focused on creating stationery and personalised invitations.
In December 2016, Sarajoy was diagnosed with aggressive, stage three breast cancer. After spending endless hours in hospital waiting and treatment rooms, Sarajoy began illustrating as a creative outlet to keep her mind busy and her heart full. Initially, Sarajoy’s drawings were of her family and friends but her hobby naturally evolved into a business, Designed by Sarajoy, where she creates custom illustrations, designs invitations and small business branding.
Today, Sarajoy still has ongoing treatment, with the hope of being cancer free by 2018. Happiest when she’s spending time with her husband and two year old son Chet, Sarajoy has found her own joy in illustrating and running a business in between her chemotherapy sessions and her son’s midday naps.
