Talking Straight with Maha Corbett

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

The health & wellbeing industry is full of some pretty incredible people & we're pumped to have had the opportunity to chat to our dear friend Maha Corbett for our 'Talking Straight' series.

Maha is the Co-Founder & Director of health & lifestyle website SWIISH, the number one destination for women to supercharge both their wellness & style. On top of that, Maha is a published Author, Wellness Coach & is a huge supporter of several charities. Here's Maha.

SUPR: What does your morning routine look like?

MC: I get up around 6:15am and head out the door for a walk (for around an hour). When I get back, I have my SWIISH Wellness SUPERGREENS powder & get ready for work. I always choose my outfit the night before so that I don’t have to think about it in the morning. I’m generally in the office by 8:30am.

SUPR: What does 'health' mean to you?

MC: Health to me is about looking after not only your physical wellbeing but also your mental & emotional wellbeing. It’s about doing small things that can have a big impact – whether that’s finding 10 minutes in the day for a quick meditation, or saying no to an event that you don’t have the time or energy for, or having a greens powder each day to give you a big nutrient & energy boost. These are all small things that add up & can make a big difference.

SUPR: What are five things you'll always find in your fridge / pantry?

MC: 1. Tomatoes. I love them so much. I eat a whole punnet at a time & add them into as many dishes as I possibly can.

2. Almond milk – I use almond milk with our SWIISH Wellness GLOW Hot Chocolate Collagen & our SLEEP Superfood Powder to make them extra creamy & frothy.

3. Herbs – herbs make everything taste better whether fresh (like a salad) or cooked (like a curry). I’m always fully stocked with mint, parsley, coriander, basil & thyme.

4. Medjool dates – I have them after dinner instead of chocolate, add them to desserts, smoothies & snack balls. They’re hugely satisfying when you after a sweet hit.

5. Black rice – it’s full of fibre & antioxidants. Plus it’s super delicious.

SUPR: What's your favourite form of movement?

MC: Walking for sure. I’m lucky enough to live in Bondi & doing the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk is something I enjoy immensely. The view is spectacular & the ocean air always makes you feel incredible! Pilates ranks a close second place. Something about Pilates feels emotionally healing as well as physically healing.

SUPR: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be & why?

MC: There’s no place like Australia but I wouldn’t mind living in Italy for a year or five! I actually have never been there can you believe, but I feel like I was Italian in another life. Think about it – Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Rome, Milan, handbags, shoes, the cheese, the pasta, the pizza, the tomatoes…. Heaven!

SUPR: What is one fun fact most people wouldn't know about you?

MC: I became a marriage celebrant in the USA so that I could officiate the wedding ceremony of my best friend & his (now) wife! It was such a special experience!

SUPR: Why is it important to you to be Straight Up & authentic? Have you ever struggled in the past with being your true self?

MC: I think I’ve always been my true self but in the past, I’ve definitely beaten myself up about certain things in life not working out the way I thought they would, or not happening in the timeframe that I had hoped. I used to have a lot of negative self-talk & a very loud inner critic. Over time, I have become much kinder to myself; I now realise that you would never speak to a friend with the kind of harsh criticism with which we can often speak to ourselves. I’ve turned that around, & accepted that life happens the way it’s meant to & that my job is to show up, work hard, learn, grow & be the best human I can be along the way.

SUPR: The health industry isn’t perfect. If you had the power to change one thing about it, what would it be and why?

MC: It would be to bust the misconception that being healthy is hard, expensive, boring & bland. Because none of those things are true. I believe more people would be healthy & feel amazing from the inside out, if they began to increase their veggie intake, shop locally (farmers markets are filled with fresh produce at affordable prices), consume lean proteins & eat clean, nourishing foods. That’s why I’m so passionate about cooking & sharing our easy & delicious recipes with our SWIISH community.
