Talking Straight with Elle Halliwell

Next up on our Talking Straight Series is the lovely Elle Halliwell. We've had the pleasure of getting to know Elle professionally & personally over the years, & she is someone we are proud to have in our network. Here we chat about all things morning routines, fad diets & life lessons. Let's get straight into it!

What is one aspect of your morning routine that you look forward to?

Coffee! During Covid I rekindled my love for a homemade brew & now it's an essential part of my routine. I add MCT oil & flavourless hydrolysed collagen to give me extra energy, & have to say I've saved quite a bit of money - & nasty paper takeaway cups, making this at-home swap.

What’s one health & wellness trend that you have never been able to get on board with?

Super strict diets. I dislike the idea of restricting macros, eg carbs or fats, or entire food groups. It's just not sustainable. I think prioritising low processed, organic ingredients & cooking at home is the best way to honour your body.

What piece of advice would you go back & give your younger self?

Don't sweat the small stuff! Unfortunately, it's something I still need to advise myself of.

What is one quality you have learnt to love & accept about yourself that you might not have before?

My softness. I am an empath & quite sensitive, so working in a fast-paced, intense career such as media really wasn't the ideal choice. I used to see it as a weakness, but now I believe it's all relative. I'm doing a lot of teaching now which I feel plays to my personality more.

What does self-care look like to you & how do you prioritise it to prevent burn-out?

One thing I've realised is that self-care isn't about long baths & affirmations.

Learning strategies to manage stressful situations - via mindfulness & NLP techniques & regular appointments with a mental health professional - rather than booking weekends in places with poor reception to escape them has been the best self-care practice.

Complete the following sentences:

On the weekend you’ll find me: Playing Beyblades or basketball with my son, or wandering Bondi beach markets.

I can’t live without:My son.

My go-to coffee order is: Oat flat white

If I were a cocktail, I would be: a Seedlip and tonic (or Gin, depending on the day!)

My favourite way to sweat is: In a hot yoga class

An inspiring quote that sums me up is: "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change"

If I could go on any reality TV show I would go on: oh my gosh Survivor. I am obsessed.
