The health and wellbeing industry is full of some pretty amazing people and we're excited to have had the opportunity to chat with the lovely Danielle Bazergy for our 'Talking Straight' series.
Danielle is a personal trainer and fitness expert, presenter and creator. Believing that doing the exact same thing day to day can become tiresome and lead to a loss of motivation, Danielle's training philosophy is as follows - keep changing what you're doing, keep your body guessing and challenge the limits of your mind. Here's Danielle.
SUPR: What does your morning routine look like?
DB: I wish I could say that I was one of those people that gracefully wakes up when the sun rises, rolls out of bed, makes a coffee and drinks it sitting down in their robe and journals while listening to peaceful music. Unfortunately, my mornings are quite the opposite; 4am wake up, drink a big glass of water, and listen to a "get hyped" playlist while I get dressed and make my to-go coffee before I leave for the gym!
SUPR: What does ‘health’ mean to you?
DB: When I was in year 11 I learned a definition of health in PDHPE and it has stuck with me ever since. "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". It warms my heart that society is now acknowledging and recognising the importance of mental health just as much as physical health.
SUPR: What are five things you’ll always have in your fridge / pantry?
DB: Avocados, hummus, almonds, berries and chocolate.
SUPR: What’s your favourite form of movement?
DB: Nothing fuels me (and empties me) more than a gross sweaty WOD with friends. There is honestly no better feeling.
SUPR: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
DB: I am actually in love with where I live now (Manly, Sydney). Sure there are places that I want to travel and places around the world that I want to see, but I am in love with Manly; it's home, it's relaxed, it's on the beach, it's close enough to the city and it's where all of my loved ones are.
SUPR: What is one fun fact most people wouldn’t know about you?
DB: I used to be a National Ballroom Dancing medalist.
SUPR: Why is it important to you to be Straight Up and authentic? Have you ever struggled in the past with being your true self?
DB: You don't have much if you don't have your integrity and authenticity. There have been many times where I've turned down lots of money to work with brands that don't completely align with my values and beliefs which can be hard when you're starting out, but it's all worth it now. I'd rather be poor and true to myself than be a sellout.
SUPR: The health industry isn’t perfect. If you had the power to change one thing about it, what would it be and why?
DB: To completely eradicate all of the false information in the industry. There is way too much information available, so much of it being incorrect so as someone that's heavily involved in the health and fitness industry, I can see how it would be confusing and confronting for someone that's new to it or trying to implement healthy habits. There are too many people getting rich over the false information that they're selling people and it needs to stop.
