Next up on our Talking Straight series is Phoebe Parsons, you might have seen her face on viral TikTok videos, seen her name in articles about the Millennial vs Gen Z sock debate or heard her voice on her popular podcast, FIT(ish). Phoebe is multidimensional & we're so grateful we had the opportunity to chat to her for our Talking Straight series.
We asked Phoebe about the health industry & some fun quick fire questions -
Let's get into it!
Name & title
Phoebe Parsons. Marketing Manager. Pilates Instructor. Podcaster. I think I’m rocking what’s now being called a “portfolio career” (shoutout to TikTok for keeping me in the loop!).

Tell us a bit about you & what you do
I’m a journalist by trade and spent the first 3.5 years of my career living my dream as a beauty writer. Basically, I was trying to channel Andy Anderson, the ‘How To’ girl from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – minus the messing-with-men-for-articles part.
At some point, I got way too into health & fitness, so naturally, I became a Les Mills Body Attack & Barre instructor, teaching classes before work & on weekends. With my all-or-nothing personality (shoutout to my addictive tendencies), fitness took over, & next thing you know, I was working in marketing for brands like Lorna Jane, Goodlife, ghd ANZ, Studio Pilates, & now Soak Bathhouse. It’s a very refreshing change of pace to be in the wellness space – more saunas, less spreadsheets.
I still teach Pilates & Barre a few times a week &, somewhere along the line, accidentally started a podcast. It hit #1 on iTunes within the first few months, so I guess I couldn’t stop (7 years later, still going strong). Oh, & I had a stint hosting a weekend breakfast show on Nova, which was one of the best gigs.
Some might call it ADHD, but I like to say it’s just me being a Libra who can’t decide what I want to do with my life – so I’m doing it all.
What do you love about the health & wellness industry?
I love how it's evolved to be more about balance & connection, rather than perfection. Wellness isn’t just green smoothies & gym selfies anymore – it’s about real, relatable experiences, like soaking in a mineral pool with friends & working out to feel good (not just look good).
It’s exciting to be part of an industry that encourages people to care for themselves in ways that fit their lifestyle – whether that’s going for a run, getting a massage, or just enjoying a moment of mindfulness with a glass of wine. Working at Soak Bathhouse has been really refreshing & enlightening for me because it embodies that ‘balance’ so many of us are looking for. It’s essentially wellness without the pressure.
What trends are you predicting for the health industry for the rest of the year?
For the rest of the year, I predict a rise in social wellness experiences – people are looking for ways to connect meaningfully that don’t involve getting blackout drunk on a Saturday night. Instead of boozy catchups, the trend is shifting towards activities like run clubs, bath houses & Pilates classes with friends. It’s all about creating spaces where people can recharge together, hang outs without the hangover.
We’re also seeing more emphasis on rest & recovery – wellness is no longer about pushing to the limit but about finding balance through practices like infrared saunas, cold plunges, & mindful movement.
I think the days of striving for perfection are over – people want well-being that fits their lives, whether that’s hitting the gym, soaking in a spa, or just enjoying a night in with wine & snacks.
It’s about sustainability & balance and enjoying the journey without burning out.
What's the best piece of advice you were given?
"Nobody really knows what they’re doing – they’re just winging it."
Remember that even most successful people are figuring things out as they go. So now, I’m officially in my delulu era, I dive headfirst into everything. If you do it with confidence, no one will question you.
& what’s the worst?
"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."
Have you tasted hot chips before Kate Moss babes? Because I promise you, skinny has nothing on a crispy thick hot chip dipped in aioli.
If weren’t in the health space, what industry / job would you do / be?
Honestly, I’m in it for life – good luck trying to pry me out of this space! But if I had to pick something else, I’ve always been very interested in nutrition & have toyed with the idea of becoming a dietitian. The only problem? I’m definitely not the best student & I’m very easily distracted (in case you can’t tell from my resume).
